2025 – Week 6 Term 4
World Teachers’ Day – Friday 31 October 2025
I would like to thank my incredible teaching staff and acknowledge the significant contribution they make to the lives of our students and the community. I want to extend my most sincere gratitude to our amazing teachers as we celebrate World Teachers' Day tomorrow.
This is a day to formally recognise the extraordinary effort, dedication, and passion that the teaching staff at Robertson State School bring to their classrooms every single day.
Our teachers are much more than just educators; they are:
- Mentors who guide our children through challenges.
- Inspirers who spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
- Role Models who instil the values and compassion that shape our future citizens.
They work tirelessly, planning engaging lessons, adapting to individual student needs, and fostering a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for every child. The success and well-being of our students are a direct reflection of their commitment and expertise.
If you have a moment this week, please join us in thanking your child's teacher, and all our teaching staff, for the profound and lasting impact they have on the lives of our children. Thank you for your ongoing support of our teachers and our school.
Happy World Teachers' Day to all our phenomenal educators!

Day for Daniel - Friday 31 October
Our school is participating in Day for Daniel on Friday 31 October. Students are encouraged to wear a splash of red to raise awareness for child safety. This could be a red t-shirt with school shorts, red shorts with a school shirt, a red hat, red shoes, or another combination featuring red.
It’s important to educate children about personal safety, help them identify unsafe situations, teach them to react and empower them to report abuse and seek help.
As part of Day for Daniel, our school will also participate in Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson. This year the lesson focuses on creating safer online and offline environments for children.

Avoid Early Pick-Ups After 2:45 PM
We kindly ask that you do not collect your child early after 2.45pm. The final school bell rings at 3.00 PM, and the last 15 minutes of the day are important for wrapping up learning, preparing for home, and ensuring a calm and safe dismissal.
If your child has an appointment or needs to leave early, please try to schedule it outside of school hours whenever possible. We understand that sometimes early pick-ups are unavoidable, however minimising them helps reduce disruptions for both your child and their classmates.
Should an early departure be required, please notify the school office in advance through phone or email as early as possible. This allows us to prepare your child and ensure a smooth transition.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in helping us maintain a focused and productive learning environment right up to the end of the school day.

Early Holidays
As we make our way through Week 4, we want to touch base with families who may be planning an early holiday or have other reasons for extended absences. With the Christmas holidays right around the corner, we know it’s a time when many families take advantage of the break to travel or spend quality time together.
.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
If your child will be absent for more than 10 consecutive school days, you will need to complete an exemption form. This is important for ensuring that your child is meeting attendance requirements and supporting your child’s education while they’re away.
.
How to Apply
- Online: You can fill out the exemption form and email it directly to us at office@robertsonss.eq.edu.au.
- In Person: If you prefer, stop by the office and we’ll be happy to provide you with a paper copy to fill out.
.
Looking Ahead to Christmas Holidays
As we approach the Christmas holidays, we know many families take the opportunity to spend time together. While we encourage you to make family time a priority, we also want to remind you that any planned absences during school time (other than illness) will need an exemption request.
Please keep in mind that absences can have an impact on your child’s learning, especially as we finish up key units of study. We’ll work with you to make sure your child doesn’t miss out on anything important, but we ask that you submit the exemption form before you go.
Thank you for being such a vital part of our school community. We appreciate your cooperation, and we’re excited to continue working together as we head towards the holiday season!

Metropolitan North and South Choral Honours Program
Last week from 21-23 October Education Queensland held the Metropolitan North and South Choral Honours program for Year 6 choir students at the Old Museum Building. Five of our Year 6 Cantabile students were selected to participate in this program. They worked with two guest conductors and memorised four songs to perform at the concert on Thursday afternoon. The performance was wonderful, and they were a credit to our school. Congratulations singers

Year 3 Creative Arts Incursion
On Friday, October 17, our Year 3 students participated in a one-hour Creative Arts Incursion that explored the use of pattern in art. The session encouraged students to experiment with line, shape, and colour to create bold and expressive abstract designs.
Students learned how warm and cool colours can create contrast and mood, and how repeating shapes and lines can form rhythm and balance within their artwork. Each class followed a similar process, yet every student’s creation was wonderfully unique, reflecting their individual imagination and ideas.
The incursion provided an enjoyable opportunity for creative exploration and self-expression. Students were fully engaged and proud of their work, showing great focus and enthusiasm throughout the session. Their colourful artworks are a celebration of creativity, pattern, and the joy of making art!

The Queensland Police Service are encouraging all community members to participate in child safety education and awareness.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is encouraging families and communities to join the conversation about child safety, using this day as an opportunity to make sure children feel informed, prepared, and empowered to stay safe.
Named in memory of Daniel Morcombe, who tragically lost his life in 2003, Day for Daniel takes place on the last Friday of October each year. This year, it falls on Friday, October 25. It’s a powerful reminder that the best way to protect children is to start open conversations about their personal safety—and keep those conversations going year-round.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know how to start these important conversations, but small discussions can build trust and give children the confidence to speak up when something doesn’t feel right. Here are some ways to approach personal safety with your child.
- Open Communication: Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety and ensure they are creating a safe environment for them to express any feelings of concern. Building trust by reassuring them they can come to you with anything on their mind, no matter how big or small is paramount.
- Teach safety rules: Discuss important safety rules, such as never speaking to strangers and knowing how to ask for help.
- Technological safety: teach children and young adults about safe use of the internet and protecting personal details and talk to them about how to navigate the digital world safely. Use parental controls where necessary.
- Emergency contacts: ensure your child is aware of how to contact and who to contact for help. Keep a clear list of emergency numbers including triple zero or the number of someone from their safety network in a clear and accessible place.
- Create Safety Networks: educate your child on how to build a safety network; a group of trusted people who they can turn to for help when in need. Everyone’s safety network can look different and can include people such as parents/ guardians, relatives, teachers or trusted friends. It is important to build this with your child and ensure they feel safe and secure with these individuals also.
- Trust your instincts: Encourage them to trust their instincts, if something doesn’t feel right or safe, to immediately find someone they trust for help.
- It’s okay to say no!: discuss the right to say no with your child, such as when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable. No means no.
By fostering spaces of open communication through education and awareness, we can create a safer community.
While Day for Daniel shines a spotlight on child safety, it’s important to make these discussions a regular part of family life. The more we talk about safety, the more confident and secure children will feel when navigating the world around them.
There are numerous ways you can show your support for Day for Daniel, including wearing red, joining a local event or donating.
