Positive Behaviour Learning News
This fortnight we are focussing on two different lessons:
-
Be Respectful – By allowing others the right to learn and teach
-
Rule Reminder: Be Responsible – Know of and avoid Out of Bounds Areas
Respect at Robertson State School
Respect can be demonstrated in various ways, and we can teach students what respect looks like through a range of concrete examples and social situations.
Showing respect towards someone else can look different from person to person, depending on a range of factors. In that same regard, the potential for someone to feel disrespected may differ from person to person, dependent on their unique perspective.
In the school setting and at home, we can teach general ways to demonstrate respect through teaching the following skills with the understanding that it’s a continual learning process:
- Listen Up! - Listening when a peer or adult is speaking
- Wait Your Turn - Patiently waiting for a turn during an activity or situation (i.e., raising your hand or waiting for a turn in a game)
- Follow Directions - Following directions or the rules
- Be Honest - Truthfulness shows respect for others’ feelings and experiences.
- Show Kindness - Small acts like a smile, a compliment, or helping a friend goes a long way.
- Help Out - Helping others in the school community shows responsibility and care.
- Work Together - Value others’ ideas and contributions.
- Keep a Safe Body - Respect includes being mindful of personal space and physical boundaries.
- Use Positive Body Language - Demonstrating eye contact and appropriate body language while others are speaking
- Honour Boundaries - Honouring other’s boundaries
